THIRD-PERSON LEVEL DESIGN

This is my personal project. The level is built for a third-person combat adventure experience. Black mesh is built in MAYA and import into Unreal for playtesting.

 
 

DESIGN PROCESS

This level is built for a combat adventure experience. The character can go around the environment and can stand on everything. I also add some ladders and strings which indicate the character also has climbing mechanisms (Not shown in the video).

After entering the door, the leading lines show the direction that the character can go. And the left way is more visible because of the buildings.

 

After going forward on the way, the player can easily find the bridge that is in the air which is also inviting. So the player will set a goal base on that.

There is a door back behind the player which is not easy to spot. And it can lead the way up to a high building. But along the way, enemies are easy to spot the player so it's also dangerous to go to.

 

The high platform is easy to spot, but it requires good player skills to go to.

At top of the hill, the player will spot the small town. But there's no direct way to go to. This helps the player to set the next goal. (Normally jump down is not a solution, because the player will die.)

 

There are two doors opposite each other, so the player will spot the other door directly. And the buildings are inviting the player to explore. Also, the ultimate grand building is there to indicate the final point.

Before the player goes to the final point, I put another small space the hidden next to the building so the player can also explore and get some extra rewards.

 

BLOCK MESH INTO REAL SCENE

This asset package is a free package in Unreal Engine
